1977

Dr Alex Moulton, renowned automotive engineer and inventor, lives alone at The Hall in Bradford-on-Avon, devoting his life to both engineering innovation and the care of the historic house he calls home. In 1977, Dr Moulton founds the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust to safeguard The Hall.

2012

Dr Moulton dies in 2012 at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy of engineering brilliance and a lifelong bond with one of England’s greatest Jacobean houses. The estate—and its assets—are gifted via his will to the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust.

2020

In 2020, the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust is reorganised into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The Trust sets up its charitable objectives to honour the legacy of Dr Moulton and to preserve The Hall.

2022

Christine Olivieri becomes CEO of the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust. Her leadership ensures the long-term future of this remarkable estate, transforming the property into a sustainable heritage and community hub, hosting guided tours.

2024

After a £100,000 6-month project, The Hall proudly unveils its first three en-suite guest rooms—elegantly restored spaces that blend timeless character with modern comfort, generating a commercial income stream.

2025

The Hall secures a £150,000 Heritage Impact Fund loan from the Architectural Heritage Fund, a UK-based charity that supports the conservation and sustainable reuse of historic buildings. The loan helps transform four historic cottages located on The Hall estate into comfortable, energy-efficient homes, generating sustainable income while addressing local housing needs.

2025

The Hall is awarded a £5,640 grant from the Finnis Scott Foundation, a charitable trust that supports projects in horticulture, plant sciences, fine art, and art history. This funding will support the revival of the terrace borders, reinstating the original 1975 planting scheme and transforming areas that were once grassed over into richly planted, vibrant borders. The project will breathe new life into this historic landscape, with the full effect expected to come into bloom by May 2027.
