The Alex Moulton Charitable Trust

The Alex Moulton Charitable Trust was founded by Alex Moulton in 1977.

Following his death in December 2012, the assets of the Moulton estate passed to the Charitable Trust for safe-keeping, conservation and preservation.

As CEO of the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust, Christine Olivieri has led the revitalisation of The Hall, transforming this Grade I listed property into a sustainable heritage and community hub. From overseeing restoration projects to developing commercial income streams and securing vital heritage funding, her leadership ensures the long-term future of this remarkable estate.

Christine and the team at The Hall work together to bring to life the fascinating stories that make this historic site so special.

1977

Dr Alex Moulton, renowned automotive engineer and inventor, lives alone at The Hall in Bradford-on-Avon, devoting his life to both engineering innovation and the care of the historic house he calls home. In 1977, Dr Moulton founds the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust to safeguard The Hall.

2012

Dr Moulton dies in 2012 at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy of engineering brilliance and a lifelong bond with one of England’s greatest Jacobean houses. The estate—and its associated assets—are gifted via his will to the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust.

2020

In 2020, the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust is reorganised into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The Trust sets up its charitable objectives to honour the legacy of Dr Moulton and to preserve The Hall.

2022

Christine Olivieri becomes CEO of the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust. Her leadership ensures the long-term future of this remarkable estate, transforming the property into a sustainable heritage and community hub, hosting guided tours and local events.

2024

After a 6-month 100k restoration project led by Darcy Design & Build, The Hall proudly unveils its first three ensuite guest rooms—elegantly restored spaces that blend timeless character with modern comfort, generating a commercial income stream.

2025

The Hall secures a 100k historic loan from the Architectural Heritage Fund, a UK-based charity that supports the conservation and sustainable re-use of historic buildings. Overseen once again by Darcy Design & Build, the loan transforms four historic cottages located on The Hall estate into comfortable, energy-efficient homes, generating sustainable rental income while addressing local housing needs.

2026

The next chapter in our journey is the restoration of the Grade II-listed Dovecote—transforming this characterful building into thoughtfully designed two-bedroom residential accommodation. Launched in October 2024, our Dovecote Campaign seeks to raise vital funds to conserve this architectural gem and secure its future as a sustainable source of rental income.
