Private Stay in a 400-Year-Old Mansion

The Hall Estate is not a conventional hotel — it offers something far more rare. With only a handful of rooms available, every stay feels deeply personal. Guests enjoy exclusive access to a national heritage treasure, free from the feel of a commercialised property. This is a place where history, atmosphere, and privacy come together in a truly distinctive way.

Stay within a Grade I-listed Jacobean mansion of exceptional significance — where the experience is intimate, the setting is remarkable, and availability is very limited.

Eric

Found on the ground floor of the property, the Eric room was once the working office of Dr Alex Moulton’s staff and has now been transformed into a unique, calm, and comfortable place to stay for a perfect night’s sleep.

The Eric room is inspired by the bravery and heroism of Eric Moulton, the twenty-six-year-old son of John and Alice Moulton, who was shot and fatally wounded following the declaration of war in 1914 between the Allied Powers and the Central Powers. The Eric room uses colours from the Wiltshire Regiment uniform and features an ensuite green tiled shower room, converted from what once was a majestic fireplace.

Historically, the Eric Room served as the kitchen of The Hall Estate. Its high-set windows were intentionally designed to help regulate temperature during cooking by keeping the room cooler. Today, those same 400-year-old leaded stained-glass windows remain a remarkable feature. To preserve and protect them, we’ve installed discreet secondary glazing—both for insulation and to safeguard their fragile, Grade I-listed status.

Kingston

Situated on the second floor of the property, the Kingston room features framed illustrations of the namesake of this captivating space, the Duchess of Kingston, who was notorious for being the first woman to be tried and convicted of bigamy in Great Britain in 1776 and who was a previous resident of The Hall Estate.

A brightly coloured, floral heritage wallpaper wraps around the chamber, providing guests with a gorgeously cosy and feminine feel. Also featured in the Kingston room is a restored carriage trunk from the late 19th century, discovered gathering dust in the servants’ quarters of the house.

The room features 400-year-old leaded stained-glass windows, which remain a remarkable feature. To preserve and protect them, we’ve installed discreet secondary glazing—both for insulation and to safeguard their fragile, Grade I-listed status.

Moulton

To stay in the Moulton room, the former private chamber of famed automotive engineer and inventor Alex Moulton, presents a unique opportunity for Moulton aficionados, enveloping oneself in what was once Dr Moulton’s private bedroom.

A dedicated entrance to the Moulton room is decorated with portraits, certificates, and diplomas of the originator of the iconic Moulton Bicycle, a staple of the swinging sixties.

Lovingly restored and reupholstered, Dr Moulton's 7-ft-wide four-poster bed features a beautiful headboard and canopy and a deep, hand-tufted, luxurious mattress for the perfect night’s sleep. It presents guests with a truly memorable experience in a remarkable room.
