A busy and creative summer at The Hall

Since securing grants for feasibility work earlier in the year from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Pilgrim Trust and Architectural Heritage Fund The Hall has been a hive of activity throughout the long hot summer of 2018.

Our design team led by Haverstock Architects has been developing ideas and options for how The Hall and its surroundings can be sensitively used in a way that will facilitate public access and deliver our future vision for the site: to nurture and inspire future generations of innovating engineers and designers, to inform, excite and engage the community in the unique industrial legacy of the Moulton family of Bradford on Avon.  Consideration is being given on how to facilitate public access to The Hall and grounds, how to incorporate education activity and how to support the local economy.  Led by Rena Pitsilli Graham Architects, the design team is also preparing an invaluable condition survey to identify future repairs and help us maintain the Estate to the highest standard.

A specialist photographer (Tommy Pengilley), has been commissioned to prepare a detailed photographic record of The Hall as it is in 2018 which we can use as a reference point and a lasting piece of archival material.

The Wiltshire and Swindon Archive Centre has been working with us to help us organise and understand more about the huge collection of objects and records held on the site, whether they relate to the Moulton family or the pioneering products and processes that originated at The Hall.

Specialist building surveyors (Downland Exact Survey), have been undertaking laser scans of the buildings and grounds to provide, for the first time ever, a truly accurate digital record of the physical fabric of the place and an essential tool that will help us to design any alterations or repairs.

We have been working with our lead advisors, Ingham Pinnock Associates to review the Trust itself, identify areas for change and prepare a business plan that is capable of maintaining The Hall estate and ensuring it can support future generations of engineers and designers.

As we head towards the end of summer we look forward to growing our pool of patrons and volunteers, engaging statutory agencies and stakeholders and starting to discuss our ideas and proposals more widely before the next phase of detailed work.
