A LIFETIME IN ENGINEERING - ALEX MOULTON INTERVIEW

There is no shortage of footage of Alex Moulton, but full-length in-depth interviews are rare. As so often happens, the skill and knowledge of the interviewer has a very significant influence on the success of the interview. In this example, the renowned Veteran-Cycle Club historian John Pinkerton excels in bringing out the Moulton story from the man himself, with many candid admissions and observations. Tony Hadland, now President of the Moulton Bicycle Club, provides the introduction which places Alex Moulton’s work in historical context. Alex’s life and works are covered from childhood onwards, including his forays into motorcycling, steam power, aero engines, automotive suspensions and, of course, the Moulton bicycle.

The result is comprehensive, informative and fascinating. Those who knew Alex Moulton will be taken back to talking with him; for those who never knew him this is a glimpse not only of his life but also of his character. Many consider this to be one of Alex’s ‘best’ interviews, as indeed Alex himself did.

A transcript of this interview is available as an illustrated booklet “A Lifetime in Engineering”, published by Lit Verlag (ISBN 3-8258-0755-9)
